Most of us know what the Environmental Protection Agency is and what it does. There are some out there who aren’t too sure what the EPA is responsible for in Louisiana and around the country. That’s why we will take a good look at the role of the EPA in today’s post.
The ultimate goal of the EPA is to ensure that all Americans have clean air to breathe, fresh water to drink and unpolluted land on which to live. The agency uses the best available scientific studies and testing to ensure that all of these needs are met for every resident of Louisiana and the country.
There are federal laws in place that the EPA is tasked with maintaining and enforcing fairly and effectively. The EPA is also tasked with enforcing these laws as Congress intends them to be enforced.
When the EPA receives complaints of contaminated water, soil, or other issues it has a responsibility to investigate those complaints completely. The EPA then sends teams of agents and scientists to the affected sites to begin the cleanup process and ensure that the issue does not happen again.
One way the EPA helps enforce all of the laws and ensure that the environment is clean for everyone is by issuing grants. These grants are issued to state programs, educational entities, and other non-profit groups dedicated to cleaning up waterways and the land around them.
The EPA is an important agency that helps protect the environment in all of Louisiana. The agency is also responsible for fining companies that violate environmental acts and laws.
